"Requiem for My Friend" is the first (not-soundtrack) live album with classical music by Zbigniew Preisner. The album consists of two parts - the concert funeral, referring to the funeral Mass, "Requiem" and "The Live" section.
Part I of "Requiem" was recorded in December 1997 in Warsaw Cathedral and the Church of the Resurrection of Emmaus in Krakow. It is the organ music with the accompaniment of vocal soloists and chorus, divided into the traditional part of the funeral mass. With the exception of "Lux Aeterna", that is performed in Polish, all the songs are sung in Latin.
Part II, "Life" was also recorded in December 1997 in the Church of the Resurrection of Emmaus in Krakow and partially in January 1998 in the studio S2/S4 of the Polish Radio in Warsaw. Polish jazz piano virtuoso Leszek Mozdzer, took part in this part of recording. This is typical of Preisner's work, with the accompaniment of vocal soloists and chorus, divided into parts, which each of them symbolizing the important phases of human life. All songs are performed in three languages Polish, Greek, and in Latin.
